What is the “which is not normally a component of a canned health education program?” component? What can we expect to get from a canned health education program that is not normally a component of a regular health education course?
The answer may surprise you. Most nutrition courses usually include information on the nutrient content of the food that they are covering, and a short description (if it is more than a page long) of the food’s nutritional value. If a nutrition course does not include this information, then the consumer needs to find out what the concentration of each nutrient is in the food or the nutrient combination that the food is made up of. Some companies that sell foods as healthy supplements will usually have a table showing the concentration of all of the key ingredients in the food.
However, if the course is not being offered by a nutrition institute, then the only thing that the student can expect to find is a list of Nutrient Content statements, which state what percentage of the calories in the nutrition program are from each nutrient, and how much is from saturated fat, sugar, cholesterol, or other unhealthy components. If the nutrient content statement also mentions that the food contains Vitamin D, then the product is not normally a part of a nutrition program, because that is considered an added vitamin. The concentration of nutrients is usually shown next to each nutrient. In this way, the nutritionist would know which nutrients are in the product and which are not.
Can you still get information that is normally a part of a health and nutrition program from the company that sells the food? Sometimes the company will provide additional resources to help students understand nutrition better. They may have a web site that provides nutritional facts on the back of the can, which is an excellent place to start. Other times the company will mail out a booklet with sample pages from different nutrition books. The nutritional facts on the back of the book will be similar to the samples on the web site but will also list how much of each nutrient is in the food, so that students can easily compare the information. Most companies sell foods in grocery stores and bulk food warehouses, so they usually have a nutritional facts sheet on their web site as well.
The internet can be a great source for finding out about ingredients in canned goods, and there are many websites that list the ingredients on the back of the can. These companies do not have to list all of the ingredients, since they are required by law to make available all of the data regarding the manufacturing process for their products. However, consumers can easily check to see what is in each product. Sometimes it is best to purchase a product that has all natural ingredients, since these are usually better for your body than processed ones.
What are the benefits of purchasing a food product that is more natural? Studies have shown that some nutritional supplements do not really work. Sometimes a foodstuff is advertised as having many health benefits, when in fact, the benefits are very small and the benefits could be gained from eating the regular food. When a food additive actually does not accomplish what is claimed, then you would be better off buying the regular food. Sometimes, companies will use words such as “100 percent natural” on their web sites and advertise the product as if it were something that your grandmother ate over 100 years ago, when in reality, most nutritional additives have been used for decades.
Which is not normally a component of a canned health education program? Water. Your canned food may claim that it is a water-soaked product, but it is still not actually water – it is mostly sugar water. If you are in poor physical condition, it is not good for you. There are many people who actually have kidney disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, etc., and they do not get enough water, so why buy their products when you can buy a better product for you?
Which is not normally a component of a canned health education program? Nutrition. Any health program that claims to include a vitamin or mineral within the program is not making all of the claims that they could, because these vitamins and minerals usually have to be taken in through the mouth. They are usually included in other types of health products.
