There are many persons who are unaware of the fact that there is much more to health than mere keeping oneself fit. Health is a very delicate subject. It requires one to have a deep understanding of it and this is where knowledge of health education comes into picture. Knowledge of the norms of health helps in identifying problems early. Proper identification of the problem is a key to effective treatment.

In the modern world where the life expectancy of a person has increased, it is but obvious that there is a rising demand for people who practice health. This is because the number of people affected by diseases like diabetes, HIV and other such chronic conditions is on the rise. It is important to make the best use of this growing demand to create awareness.

In the US, health education has become a highly controversial issue. This is mainly due to the fact that there is a rising trend of insurance scams. A person who believes that he/she is getting better health care may be in for a shock. Some employers also exploit the belief that employees will get better health care under their scheme. Thus, the expectations that are set by the educational institutes and governments about what the expected norms of a person who practices health should be is often not met.

A person who thinks that he/she is getting better health care in the United States might expect that he/she would be in a position to maintain the same. However, the reality is far different. The United States is one of the most developed countries in the world and yet health care remains a thriving industry. Health care costs have come down but the level of service quality has not. Hence we can say that the expected norms of a person who practices health are not met in the United States.

The norms of the health and fitness industries are high. This is mainly because there is a constant need for body builders, weightlifters, sportsmen and women to keep their bodies in shape. The United States does not have a tradition of free exercise and hence people expect to find the same in their country. Even so, the level of physical activity does not get reduced despite the fact that there is a constant demand for it. But in the United States, it is hard to find people who have managed to maintain a fit body since they do not have access to a wide range of exercise options.

One might think that the norms of a person who practices health are found in an environment which is controlled by big pharmaceutical companies. But that is not the case. The norms of a person who practices health are also found in settings where there are no big corporations. In rural areas and small towns all over the United States, the level of education and awareness about the norms of health are extremely low.

So the real problem is not whether a person who practices healthy life can find the same in an industrialized setting but rather how and where. The solution lies in making the education available and in building infrastructure that makes exercise possible. It is only then that the norms of a person who practices health are going to be found in an industrialized setting. Education alone cannot change the norms of a person who practices health. And if the lack of awareness continues, the challenge will be even bigger.
